Once upon a utility rug...

tshirt rag rug utility cottage rustic country blue cream brown yellow black gray green by Handiworkin' Girls
The color scheme of this t-shirt rug is a play on our previous blue and green color palettes, but with the addition of a bit of golden yellow and a heavy dose of cream. We mixed in all of the prevalent neutrals - navy blue, coffee brown, black, and charcoal gray - to keep our rug versatile in style as well as practical. For everyday use, we locate our own utility rugs by our back entries, as a way to trap some of the dirt brought in by little feet. As we hand-knit all our rugs from upcycled t-shirts, we end up with lots of nubby little bumps and knots. Those rustic-looking knots are the dirt-trappers, and since our rag rugs are machine-washable (front-loaders only, of course), this makes allergen-control much simpler and a lot more stylish!

Love will find you where you are...

In the midst of our playlist tweaking (it happens every month or so), we keep finding treasury inspiration songs. On Saturday, it was a song from Sidewalk Prophets' album These Simple Truths, and, incidentally, the song from which the album's own title came: "The Words I Would Say." It also has the perfect lyrics to coincide with our some of our favorite CAST items; namely, word art. We have too many favorites to spotlight them all at once, so here are a choice few in black and white!

'The words I would say....' by HandiworkinGirls

Three in the morning, and I'm still awake So I picked up a pen and a page And I started writing just what I'd say If we were face to face I'd tell you just what you mean to me Tell you these simple truths:

Be strong in the Lord
And never give up hope
You’re gonna do great things
I already know
God’s got His hand on You
So don’t live life in fear
Forgive and forget
But don’t forget why you’re here
Take your time and pray
These are the words I would say

Last time we spoke you said you were hurting
And I felt your pain in my heart
I want to tell you that I keep on praying
That love will find you where you are

Spring spirals...

handiworkingirls rag rug circular t shirt rainbow blue purple pink artisan knitted

Our very latest custom creation - a circular t-shirt rug - consists of a multitude of bright shades spinning into an almost perfect spiral. The mixture of blue, purple, pink, green, black, gray, and white turns a simple floorcovering into an eye-covering accent for your kitchen or living room. The thickness of the t-shirts gives your toes a welcome respite from the cold, hard floor! And with the aid of a front-loading washer, the rug also helps reduce the accumulation of indoor allergens - always a plus for those of us with sensitive noses.

Sometimes the truth ain’t easy to find...

Black and white forms a crisp canvas for our newest treasury. To coincide with the lyrics of Sanctus Real's "These Things Take Time," we added accents of copper and aqua. The deep yet natural color palette, artisan-made products, and the succinct song lyrics will (hopefully) provide an encouraging moment to your morning.

'And I wonder why...' by HandiworkinGirls

I wanna know why pain makes me stronger I wanna know why good men die Why am I so afraid of the dark? But I stray from the light I wanna know why You gave me eyes When faith is how I see And tell me Is it easier to doubt Or harder to believe

Oh there’s so many questions stirring in me
And I wonder why
Sometimes the truth ain’t easy to find
I wanna know all the answers
But I’m learning that
These things take time
Yeah, these things take time

This is more than a hope or a feeling...

For our final Valentine's treasury for 2013, we choose to feature "This Is Love" by Kutless. Rich red, soft white, and cool black form the base of our color palette this week. It turned out to be a very striking combination of colors, and one that we hope you all will enjoy.

'This is love...' by HandiworkinGirls

Alone in a garden weeping Begging His father pleading Take this cup from me But if it's Your will Father let it be All of the others sleeping Sweat on His brow was bleeding He could have run away but He chose to stay

This is Love this is real
This is more than a hope or a feeling
It's enough to cover us
This is Love
